Ireland - West Coast

Some of the rooms at Askeaton Friary are now filled with grass and wildflowers, just lovely... In 1579, during the Desmond rebellion, a Government army attacked Askeaton and the Friary was burned down along with the town and its crops. Some monks were massacred by the soldiers and some escaped. Much later in 1627 some monks returned to Askeaton and remained active in the area until 1740.
